Salary: C £38,000 per annum PLUS a tax free International Supplement (£15,300 - £21,600)

Description: This hospital is based on a sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500. St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care. Following the opening of its international airport in October 2017, St Helena is better placed to develop both economically and socially.

You will work with a team of committed and dedicated local and expatriate nurses seeking to promote healthier lifestyles, reduce complications from established long term conditions and provide evidence-led clinical care on the island.

The main element of the role would be to support the design and implementation of contemporary and evidence-led practices in holistic management of chronic diseases that are prevalent on the island. These are mainly diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney and respiratory diseases. You will have a varied role which combines staff & service development with seeing people who have acute urgent conditions, where you will support the effective management of those with long term chronic diseases.

This is a two year fixed term contract!

Person Specification: The ideal candidate will be registered with the NMC in the UK.

Demonstrable competence, skills and previous experience in chronic disease management, providing care for long-term condition and treating minor illnesses will be essential. Successful applicants will have significant primary care and community nursing background, able to manage teams and services and will be an effective team player. You will be passionate about patient care and outcomes, demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision making process, be able to work with and treat patients autonomously based on local protocols, be flexible and forward thinking to embrace new ways of working and transfer skills to local nurses to facilitate extending the role of the nurse practitioner to the wider nursing team.
