Prison Caseworker – Substance Misuse

A leading Welsh charity is now looking for an empathetic and impartial Prison Caseworker to join the team in offering crucial rehabilitative support to individuals with drug and/or alcohol dependency issues that have played a part in a criminal offence.

The substance intervention program provides meaningful advice, information, support, and structured interventions for substance misuse within the prison system, addressing the root causes and minimising current and future harm to each individual and their community.

As a Prison Caseworker, you will assess, plan, and manage care for individuals engaged with the program, including:

  • providing accurate and accessible information regarding the effects of substances.
  • providing effective guidance to reduce incidences of relapse and overdose.
  • facilitating group sessions alongside other professionals.
  • facilitating continued treatment and support throughout the criminal justice process.

The charity itself provides comprehensive aid to vulnerable people with mental health, addiction & related conditions who are facing difficult circumstances, such as with substance misuse, the criminal justice system, or loss of sufficient housing/ employment.

This is a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours/week) for a Prison Caseworker.

 

Person specification:

You must have NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or another relevant qualification.

You must have good knowledge of effective, recovery-focused interventions for substance misuse, mental health and/or related issues.

Previous experience of working with people with addiction and legal issues, and/or within a prison environment, is preferred but not essential.
